Terry getting shot[]

LaWanda hosts a baby shower for her and Terry, who she wants to meet her family, but Tee doesn't plan on staying. In the following days, LaWanda gives birth to her and Terry's child. She is joined in the hospital by the entire Flenory family. Two days later, they bring the baby home. Immediately following their return, Tee gets a call from Meech, who reminds him that they have a meeting to attend. Tee kisses LaWanda goodbye and heads for the car. As he's searching for the baby's pacifier, an unknown assailant walks up to the car and opens fire, shooting Tee in the face with a single round. LaWanda exits the house to find him on the ground, bleeding. She rushes over to him and screams for help.^[1]

LaWanda and the rest of Terry's family are at his side when he awakens in the hospital. Fortunately, he survived the shooting and underwent surgery. However, LaWanda catches Terry as he attempts to leave the hospital to find Meech. He barely makes it out the room before collapsing in the hallway. They learn that Terry may be permanently blind in one eye due to the infection. Following his second surgery, LaWanda lays in bed with Terry. Much like his parents, she is aware that Terry's incident wasn't a random carjacking, but rather a consequence of his dealings in the street. LaWanda is scared and worries that whoever shot Terry may come back. In a moment of transparency, Terry reveals that he too is scared, but he also loves the dope game and has no intentions of stopping. Between drug dealing and school, if anything, it'll give their son a chance at a better life than either of them ever had.^[2]

When Terry is being questioned by the police in regard to the Mercedes-Benz they arrived at the hospital in, LaWanda lies and claims that the car was a baby shower gift from her Uncle Troy. When Charles returns home from work, he questions LaWanda about her earlier comments about her uncle, who LaWanda claims lives in Pontiac by the Silverdome. Terry returns, and Charles asks where he is coming from. LaWanda covers for him yet again, claiming that he went out for some baby formula.

LaWanda attends Terry's surprise party at the bowling alley, but as the night progresses, she tells Terry that she's ready to leave. However, he isn't, and he passes her the keys to his car. When Terry finally returns, LaWanda exclaims that she's tired of being treated as replaceable. She informs Terry how she lied to the police and his parents simply to protect him, and reminds him that they're partners who should be treated equally. Terry promises that he'll do better and then begins kissing LaWanda, but she says that she isn't in the mood to have sex.^[3]

Terry takes LaWanda and Nicole out shopping for baby Terry's christening, during which point, they run into the 12th Street Boys, though Terry ensures the situation doesn't escalate. As planned, they host the christening at the Southwestern Pentecostal Church, organized by Pastor Swift.^[4]

Terry is still struggling with whether or not he should settle with the hospital and accept their $25,000 offer. His family is at odds, and Terry isn't sure what to do. What they're offering, he and Meech make in a day. However, LaWanda admits that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some money of Terry's own, away from the drug business. She doesn't know if doing everything with Meech is what's best for them. Baby Terry then begins crying, and LaWanda goes to check on him.^[5]

Leaving Terry[]

Lawanda is confronted by Lucille after learning that she lied about knowing Terry was selling drugs. She accuses LaWanda of doing what was convenient for her, but if Terry continues to sell drugs, he's only going to end up dead or in jail, Lucille explains. Right now, LaWanda is enabling him, and Lucille needs her to stop. LaWanda insists that she's not and breaks down into tears. Heading Lucille's warning, LaWanda tells Terry that she wants him to get out of the game, given recent events. He needs to choose between her and Terry jr or Meech. Terry has too much money tied in the streets to bail, but LaWanda isn't concerned with the money and gives him time to make a decision.^[6]

LaWanda reveals that she and Terry Jr. are going to live with her cousin in Pennsylvania for a few months. She gave Terry the opportunity to make a choice, but she didn't think it would take as long, so now she's leaving. Terry attempts to prevent her from leaving with his son, but Charles interferes and helps LaWanda outside.^[7]
